Need Help Shading Red

Okaaaay... Soooo, I'm basically making this really cute doll. Everything was going perfectly so far... until I got to shading the red parts of the doll. I simply cannot shade red properly... which is why I am here to ask for advice.

I don't want a pre-made colour palette. I want to learn how to do it myself. Unfortunately, when I shade red, it always ends up pale, the shading doesn't show that much and it's almost too much of a pastel colour...

I will be extremely thankful for any piece of advice or link to a tutorial of some sort. I really don't want to mess my doll up. I've worked too hard on her hair. T__T
